My mom used fosamax for 12 years with improved density tests and no complications until a tiny sore in her mouth didnt heal. This changed in to something sharp protruding at at the site and she went to the dentist. He extracted a 1/4" chunk of bone and said in 25 yrs. of practicing he had never seen anything quite like tis. Now, she has had her own teeth and has never had a tooth extracted. She right away stopped fosamax in 2007. She had a flare up of the ONJ and her oral surgeon gave her an antibiotic which got rid of the infection. However, she developed a rash and was told she couldnt take that antibiotic anymore. In January 2008 a physician prescribed prednisone for a rash. In as quick as 3 wks. her jaw had swollen and was sore to the touch. She was given an antibiotic when the pain spreading to her throat and yet another antibiotic was added.
